growing dwarf pears on a trellis

Has anyone else had any experience growing pears in their home plot, especially the dwarf varieties? I have nearly finishing digging up all the kikuyu lawn in my front garden (back breaking job that was!) and will be putting a trellis in on the weekend. I've been reading as much as I can on espaliering techniques but it all seems so complicated, and all the terminology used in the articles just compounds my fears.
